En- Vision America’s I.D. Mate is a portable “all-in-one” talking bar code scanner. It allows an individual to identify items using the product’s bar code or UPC. With I.D. Mate, the user can place barcode stickers on any item they need to identify and then simply scan the barcode and record what it is. The iron- on barcodes are very helpful because they can be used to easily label and identify clothing. I.D. Mate allows the user to identify items independently instead of needing assistance from a sighted person. For example, the user would place a can of tomato soup in front of the handheld scanner until a beep is heard; indicating the barcode is located and you can now record the name of the item. Now, the next time you scan the tomato soup, the description will be spoken. In the event that an item does not contain a barcode, the I.D. Mate comes with extra barcode stickers. SeeWell Reading Enhancer Handheld CCTV System The Seewell Reading Enhancer is a handheld CCTV system designed for use by individuals with low vision. It is a handheld camera that the user may place over any image and the image is magnified up to 50 times its original size onto the user’s standard TV. It consists of a camera unit, a control box, and a transformer, which can be connected to any standard television. The magnification range is from 6 to 50 times on a standard 19-inch TV. The magnification range increases with the size of the television used. Users can change the camera focus from a fraction of an inch to infinity by rotating the lens barrel, and by moving the camera closer or farther away from the material being read. The camera has its own light source, and an electronic diaphragm to control the amount of light which reaches the screen. The Control Box provides for control switches and four (4) cable connections. Each plug that goes into the connector is uniquely different, so that it is impossible to insert the wrong cable into a connector. Switches are provided for power on/off, TV channel select (for setting the system to display on channel 3 or channel 4), and reverse image select (for viewing images in black on white or white on black mode).
